Last week members of the Arctic Energy Alliance travelled to Inuvik to work with the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation, the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation and the Inuvik Housing Authority to set-up and monitor their Northern Sustainable House.

The Northern sustainable house in Inuvik is a duplex designed to meet a very high energy standard with an emphasis on occupant comfort, by incorporating well insulated walls, floor and roof, quadruple pane windows, a heat recovery ventilator and solar electric and solar hot water panels on the roof.

The monitoring will take place for 12 months to compare a base house with the highly efficient duplex in terms of heating, electricity and water use. The performance of the solar technologies will also be evaluated.
