On Wednesday, May 8th Steve Outlet from Arctic Energy Alliance’s (AEA) Yellowknife office and Teresa Chilkowich, AEA’s Dehcho Regional Energy Project Coordinator, offered a half day information session which covered various energy efficiency initiatives in the North that may lead to career opportunities. This session was attended by Building Trades Helper students from Aurora College and two classes from Thomas Simpson School (Mr. Benoit’s carpentry and math classes). Topics covered included some basic building science principles, energy efficiency for buildings, biomass in the NWT, and other renewable energy options. The new technologies discussed will help to reduce energy use and energy costs for buildings that are retro-fitted or newly constructed and will open up some interesting job opportunities for students in their home communities.
