A unique meeting opportunity in Jean Marie River with the Tthek’e’hde’li First Nation (TKFN) occurred April 17th, with the help of conference calling and web-conferencing technology. Leanne Robinson (AEA), Wade Carpenter (ENR), and Myra Berub (NTPC) met with TKFN Band Council members while they were in Yellowknife for other business and Teresa Chilkowich (AEA) met with a few other Band Council members in the Jean Marie River Band Office, with another Councillor calling in from Fort Simpson. Enthusiastic and engaging discussion was sparked throughout a presentation, by Leanne Robinson, on federal government “Smart Grid” project activities undertaken in British Columbia.

These Smart Grid projects involved monitoring of community energy usage to:

  • help improve the efficiency of the electricity grid,
  • integrate renewable energy into the community’s electricity supply, and
  • develop an advanced Community Energy Plan.
