During the week of July 23rd two Arctic Energy Alliance’s staff members, Donald Andre (Inuvik Office) and Yichao Chen (Yellowknife Office) visited Sachs Harbour. While in the community, they met many people and discussed ways for them to reduce their energy use and to explore renewable energy options. They had beneficial meetings with the Acting SAO Adella Carpenter, Betty Haogak from the Hunters and Trappers Committee and two representatives from the Community Corporation, Manny Kudlak and Bambi Amos. They also visited two businesses in town to discuss their energy use, Arctic Co-op and Polar-Grizz Bed and Breakfast.

After these meetings we had 5 homeowners requesting energy evaluations and 4 businesses inquiring about doing yardstick audits. There is also interest in installing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for the Hamlet building and the arena. The B & B where Donald and Yichao stayed is looking at reconnecting the monitoring equipment on their solar PV system.

Donald and Yichao enjoyed their visit to Sachs Harbour and appreciated the warm welcome they received from the community.
