Dawson City has a Northern Sustainable House (NSH) too!  December brought two Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA) staff to visit the house and meet the players involved with this project.  They collected data and equipment from the existing monitoring project with the overall goal of comparing it with a standard house in terms of energy and occupant comfort.  The highlight of the trip was the warm reception from the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and learning how they manage their houses. Very inspiring!

The Dawson E/9 NSH is to use 1/9th the energy of a house built to the Model National Energy Code for Houses (MNECH). Its special features include a high efficiency envelope, solar water heating and electric heat. We look forward to more cross territorial learning and partnering opportunities in the future.
