GNWT Environment & Natural Resources Alternative Energy Specialists, Wade Carpenter and Bryan Pelkey, recently visited the Dehcho. While there they met with Teresa Chilkowich, Arctic Energy Alliance’s Dehcho Regional Energy Project Coordinator. Teresa coordinated a meeting with Liidlii Kue First Nation’s Jermaine Gargan, and Kiwi Electric’s Troy Bradbury, to discuss steps to complete the Solar PV system that was recently installed with support through the Alternative Energy Technologies Program (AETP)

While in Fort Simpson they toured the new pellet boiler installed by Prevost Electric at the Mackenzie Rest Inn which was purchased with support from AETP.

On their drive back from Fort Simpson to Yellowknife, Wade and Bryan also met with Wayne and Lynn McKay at Checkpoint Bed and Breakfast to discuss renewable energy systems. They are interested in adding Solar PV to their operations to help decrease the run time of the diesel fuel operated electricity generating system. They have already installed a wood pellet boiler and pellet stoves for heating the main buildings for their operation.
