Sheena Adams, Arctic Energy Alliance’s Inuvik Regional Energy Project Coordinator, visited Fort McPherson in October and got a chance to see the biomass boiler fuel supply getting prepared for winter. The boiler, which heats the Health Centre and Gwich’in Tribal Council Buildings, burns wood pellets, firewood, or chipped willows. Community members were busy chipping willows so they will be dry for a spring burn.

Sheena was thrilled to see plenty of stacked and split dry firewood and a hopper of wood pellets. She believes a project is successful when it’s fully utilized and this is an excellent example of success, community collaboration and alternative energy heating the buildings of the Western Arctic and NT.
