While Yichao Chen,  Arctic Energy Alliance’s (AEA) Energy Management Specialist, was still in Fort Simpson mid-November she attended several meetings organized by Teresa Chilkowich, AEA’s Dehcho Regional Energy Project Coordinator. They did site visits of some of the renewable energy systems operating in Fort Simpson and met to discuss energy management options with a number of businesses and large facility operators.

These sessions included engaging meetings with John Dempsey (Northern Store Manager), Janel McKee and TJ Bradbury at Fort Simpson’s Pellet Steam Plant (both with GNWT Public Works), Dan Hillman (Nogha Enterprises General Manager), Norm Prevost (Prevost Electric & Maine Energy Systems pellet boiler installer), Alison de Pelham (Dehcho First Nations Executive Director), and Dean Pickering (Village of Fort Simpson Senior Administrative Officer). Yichao was also able to take a more involved look at some of the heating/lighting challenges in the Dehcho First Nations office, which revealed some very important observations regarding challenges with the existing radiator zone valves, the heat recovery ventilation (HRV) unit, and a few different electricity-saving measures.

The photo above shows Yichao checking on the boiler heating system at the DFN office.
