Composting has happily started in the Arctic Energy Alliance’s (AEA) Inuvik office. Coffee, tea and raw fruits and veggies are collected in the staff kitchen of the Aurora Research Institute (ARI) Building. The waste is removed weekly and delivered to the community composting station behind the Inuvik Community Greenhouse. The compost will be used by garden plot members in their plots next summer. Composting is a great way to reduce waste and the production of carbon dioxide while creating valuable soil for the garden. In the first week 6 pounds of material was collected!

The picture shows the compost buckets that are being used in the ARI building, one is a recycled bucket from Home Hardware and the other is one specially purchased for compost.
