The Arctic Energy Alliance’s South Slave Regional Office was invited to set up a booth at the Gateway Jamboree music festival in Enterprise on August 12. It was a beautiful sunny day and although it was very windy—making it a challenge to keep all our printed information from blowing away—about 30 people stopped by to chat.

In most cases, people raised concerns over the high cost of their electric bills, even after taking measures to reduce power consumption by installing LED light bulbs. Phantom power loads in households became a topic for discussion, and we offered to help review power bills with anyone who is able to stop by one of our offices.

We handed out several AEA-branded biodegradable shopping bags over the course of the day and drew names for three prizes. Rhonda Flamand of Enterprise won a set of LED Christmas lights, Angela Farnsworth of Hay River won a White-Rodgers Big Blue programmable thermostat and Tammy Neal of Enterprise won a Kidde Nighthawk carbon monoxide detector.
