The Arctic Energy Alliance has secured funding to work with up to three NWT communities over the next year to develop new community energy plans. This project includes funding to support a local part-time community energy champion in each of the partner communities.
This will be at least a one-year project with the possibility of a second year depending on funding.
The goals of the project are to:
- Develop a community energy plan (CEP) through a community engagement process;
- Have the CEP formally adopted by the community government;
- Implement some actions and initiatives identified in the CEP that will result in increased community self-reliance, and reduce fossil fuel use and GHG emissions in NWT communities;
- Support capacity building at the local, community and territorial level through mentorship.
