In late 2024, we launched a project in partnership with the Gwich’in Tribal Council and the Tłı̨chǫ Government to create energy-related educational materials in the respective Indigenous languages. The aim is to bridge language barriers by helping people communicate about energy in their own language.
We started by holding workshops with experts in each language to identify and develop terminology for concepts related to energy.
From there, we produced three resources for people to use:
- Printed word books, in English and each of the Indigenous languages covered by the project, containing 29 energy-related terms (download links available below)
- Flash cards, with ideas for possible games, to be used in schools and community spaces, enhancing the engagement and retention of energy-related terminology (contact us if you’re interested in a copy)
- Short videos for the Gwich’in and Tłı̨chǫ language workshops, where participants discuss their experiences developing the terminology
We hope that people find these resources helpful for both communicating about energy and strengthening their languages.
