Starting May 1, our fee for energy evaluations of existing homes will be increasing by $50. For most homes, the new fee will be $200 + GST, up from the current price of $150 + GST.
The full cost of a home energy evaluation is heavily subsidized by the Government of the Northwest Territories, but our program relies on a homeowner paying a part of that cost. The fee that we charge homeowners has stayed the same for well over a decade and has not kept pace with increasing costs.
We understand this can present a challenge for some people. If you’re on our waiting list for an evaluation of an existing home, we’ll be reaching out to you directly to talk to you about the change in the cost.
The additional fee for homes with secondary suites will remain $100 per suite. For example, if your home has one secondary suite, the total cost of an evaluation will be $300 + GST.
There will be no change to the fees for evaluations of new homes.
